New Years?

In anticipation of the upcoming New Year celebration, I felt compelled to share my thoughts concerning the "holiday."

IT IS POINTLESS!!!

Every other holiday that we celebrate is celebrated on a day that has some type of historical significance pertaining to that holiday; or at least, it is celebrated on a socially convenient day that falls close to a day that is historically significant to the holiday. BUT NOT FREAKIN' NEW YEAR!!!!

It is a completely arbitrary date that has been decided upon by MOST of the world as the day to start a new year. There is NOTHING astronomically significant about January 1. There is no reason to celebrate the new year on January 1. Not all of the world celebrates the new year on January 1.

It is a pointless designation for a holiday.

exception: The Catholic Church celebrates a Holy Day on January 1. This is an acceptable observance because they are not celebrating an arbitrary designation. Their celebration is of a different focus.

BUT CELEBRATING NEW YEAR ON JANUARY 1 IS MEANINGLESS!!!

Solution: Celebrate New Year on your birthday. That's right...New Year and Birthday are synonymous. Make New Year's resolutions on your birthday; not on January 1 (unless you were born on January 1; and then it is okay). Your birthday is truly a new year.

I will be breaking in the new year on October 20.
